What is the best drink for toddlers?

The best drink for toddlers is water

• It’s cheap, freely available, and has no sugar, artificial colourings and flavourings.

• Most children enjoy water if they can get into the habit or drinking it at an early age.

• It helps protect against tooth decay.

• Have a jug of water in the fridge and place it on the table at mealtimes. Add lemon or orange slices for interest.

Foods to use with caution (for baby & toddler)

Foods to use with caution

  • Avoid foods that cause any of the reactions above or any known family allergens.
  • Flours (especially wheat) are best avoided for the first two years. Rice flour can be used as an alternative. Avoid Buckwheat.
  • Raw onions and garlic are not for regular use.
  • No salt under 10 months, then use with caution (avoid gravies and commercial products that contain salt).
  • Avoid refined and rancid cooking oils as well as margarine and canola oil.
  • Avoid too much raw food.
  • Refined sweeteners like fructose and white sugar.
  • Chocolate and caffeine containing products.
  • Honey (especially raw) under 18 months of age (can contain the toxin botulin).• Too much fruit especially raw and in cold weather.
  • Avoid fruit juice until at least 18 months of age and then only as an occasional (once a week/fortnight) drink made fresh from fresh fruits.
  • Limit strong spices and condiments.
  • Avoid overuse of dairy products. Goat's dairy is the best for after breast milk for toddlers. Rice milk can be used as a drink and in cooking. Cow's milk is overused in our society and should be used sparingly. Occasional cheese and yoghurt is fine for children over 18 months.
  • Avoid shellfish.
  • Avoid peanuts and other nuts in the first 2-3 years, longer if there is a family history of allergies.

Refined Oils

Refined Oils are extracted from clean oilseed / oil cakes by solvent extraction for further refining to produce clear oil, free from rancidity and foreign matter. These oils are used as medium cooking oils (225°F - 350°F), high cooking oils (350°F - 450°F), and deep-frying oils (greater than 450°F).

Rancid Oil

Rancid oil has an unpleasant aroma and acrid taste, and its nutrients are greatly diminished.

solid food ?

Breast / Bottle

Breastfeeding is an important part of the diet of all infants and toddlers and will ideally be continued until the child decides to move on. It is essential that Mums look after their own health so that they can continue to feed for as long as possible. Support groups like the Australian Breastfeeding Association (http://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/) can really help to guide women to breastfeed. Breast milk is very nourishing to the Spleen and Stomach and is the perfect food for babies. It also supplements a toddler's diet.

Your child can begin solids from 6-12 months, depending upon when the child is ready. Some people choose to wait 12 months before introducing solids and this can be very beneficial. During this time, a lactating mother should have excellent nutrition and a balanced energy system, taking in rest and everything required for health. Acupuncture can help for specific problems and for general health. If the child is formula fed then solids should be introduced at 6 months as formula cannot adapt to the needs of a child in the same way that breast milk can.

NO sweet drinks for children

Why no sweet drinks for children

Often babies and children prefer sweet tasting fluids; however sugary drinks such as fruit juice, soft drink or cordial are not necessary and may cause health problems if drunk in large amounts.

What are sweet drinks?

Sweet drinks include all fruit juices, soft drinks, energy drinks, cordials, flavoured mineral waters and sports drinks either bought or home-made. Fruit juices contain sugars that are found naturally in fresh fruits, but become very concentrated when made into juice.

While breast milk, formula and unflavoured cows milk contain a sugar called lactose, these are not considered to be sweet drinks. Milk is important for children as it contains calcium needed for healthy bones and other key nutrients for growth and development.

How much is too much?

Children do not require any fruit juices or other sweet drinks to have a well-balanced and healthy diet. If you do include sweet drinks in your child’s diet, limit this to one small glass per day. Intake of sweet drinks reduces overall nutritional quality of your child’s diet and also teaches children the ‘habit’ of drinking sweet drinks.

Why limit juice?

As juice comes from fresh fruit and vegetables, it is easy to believe it is a natural, healthy food, full of vitamins. For example, children only need half an orange to get their daily requirement of vitamin C – but it takes three or four oranges to make one glass of juice.

Encourage your children to eat fresh fruit and vegetables instead of juice.
This will:
- Supply fibre to the diet and help prevent constipation
- Satisfy their appetite for longer, helping to prevent over-eating
- Help with skills such as peeling and chewing
- Teach about different textures, colour and tastes
- Provide a convenient, healthy and nourishing option for snacks.

What should I give my child to drink?

Breast milk is the perfect feed for infants; ideally infants should be exclusively breast fed for the first six months. For children younger than 12 months old, breast milk or infant formula should be the main drink. After 12 months of age, when your child has reduced breastfeeding or formula, full fat cow’s milk can be offered as a drink.

While milk is important for calcium, too much can lead to poor appetite. Three glasses per day is suggested.

For toddlers and older children, water is the preferred drink, so encourage this regularly throughout the day.

Artificially sweetened cordial and soft drinks are not recommended as they teach your child the habit of sweet drinks.

Which milk should I give my child?

For children under two years, only full fat dairy products are recommended.

From two to five years, reduced fat milk and dairy products can be offered; however skim milk and dairy products are not appropriate.

When children are over five years, either skim or reduced fat milk and dairy products can be used.

Flavoured milks are not recommended as they are higher in sugar than plain milks.

drink - water & juice

Drinks

Water is the best drink for thirst. Always have plenty of water available and show your toddler that you enjoy drinking it too.

Fruit juices (unsweetened) are good but expensive. One to two glasses a day is plenty. Toddlers should not have more than this. Fruit juice can be diluted with water. Avoid fruit juice drinks because they contain a lot of sugar.

drinks - for toddlers

Drinks
  • Water is the best drink for thirst. Always have plenty of water available so that they can get a drink by themselves.
  • Show your toddler that you enjoy drinking water too.
  • Limit fruit juice to one small glass a day diluted with water.
  • Avoid fruit juice drinks because they contain a lot of sugar.
  • Save cordial and soft drinks for special occasions.
  • Tea, coffee, 'sports' or 'energy' drinks and alcohol should not be given to children.

juices and sweet drinks

Child nutrition - juices and sweet drinks

Sweet drinks include all fruit juices, soft drinks and cordials either bought or homemade. These drinks contain sugars that are found naturally in fresh fruits, but become very concentrated when made into juice or when used to make soft drinks or cordials. Under most circumstances, children don’t need any fruit juice or other sweet drinks to have a balanced and healthy diet. Too many sweet drinks can lead to a range of problems including tooth decay, diarrhoea and small appetite. If you wish to include sweet drinks in your child’s diet, limit consumption to one small glass per day.

Breast, formula and cow's milk

While breast, formula and cow’s milk contain the sugar lactose, they’re not considered to be sweet drinks. Milk is important for children as it contains calcium needed for healthy bones. For children less than 12 months old, breast milk or infant formula should be the main drink. Offer plain full cream milk only after 12 months, when your child has reduced breastfeeding or formula. For toddlers and older children, water is preferred, so encourage this. While milk is important for calcium, too much can lead to poor appetite - a limit of about three glasses per day is recommended. Artificially sweetened milk drinks are not recommended.

Fresh fruit is best

As juice comes from fresh fruit, it is easy to believe it is a natural, healthy food that’s full of vitamins. Luckily, it takes only half an orange or half a glass of juice per day to give the vitamin C your child needs. You should encourage your children to eat fresh fruit instead of drinking juice.

This will:
- Help with skills such as peeling and chewing
- Teach about different textures, colours and tastes
- Supply fibre to the diet and help prevent constipation.

A range of problems

Too many sweet drinks can cause a range of problems including:
- Tooth decay
- Small appetite
- Picky eating
- Change in bowel habits.

Tooth decay

Children who have a sugary diet are at risk of tooth decay. For babies and toddlers, problems start when a bottle is used for comfort when going to sleep, to suck during the night or to snack on during the day. If the bottle contains any drink other than water - even milk - the sugar in the fluid sits on the teeth and gums for some time. This can cause decay, even before any teeth have broken through. Avoid using a feeding bottle for comfort, and encourage your child to drink from a cup from about six months of age.

Small appetite

Sweet drinks don’t contain the protein, fat, iron or calcium needed for a child’s growth. However, sweet drinks are full of energy (kilojoules) and can fill children up, making them less hungry for other foods. When consumed too often, sweet drinks may cause a low intake of nutrients. Problems such as iron deficiency, anaemia and failure to thrive may occur in babies and toddlers who replace food such as breast milk, formula or solids with sweet drinks.

Picky eating

Sweet drinks are filling. For picky eaters, stopping or limiting sweet drinks is a helpful way to encourage your child’s hunger so that they eat more.

Change in bowel habits

Young children may have problems digesting some of the sugars in sweet drinks, which can lead to loose bowel motions and diarrhoea. The result may include impaired growth if energy and nutrients are regularly lost from the body. When sweet drinks are removed from the child’s diet, loose bowel actions may improve.

Suggestions for parents

Changing your child’s diet can be a challenge, but remember: young children can only eat or drink what is given to them.
Suggestions include:
- Avoid using a baby’s bottle to settle your child to sleep.
- Don’t keep sweet drinks in the house.
- Don’t consume sweet drinks yourself.
- If your child is already used to sweet drinks, start to reduce their intake - for example, you could offer them watered down versions.
- If your child gets upset, remember that they will get used to the changes if you continue.
- Be patient. This may take time, particularly if your child is in the habit of wanting juice or cordial whenever they are thirsty or hungry.
- Encourage your child to eat fresh fruit instead of drinking fruit juice.
- If you wish to include sweet drinks in your child’s diet, limit consumption to one small glass per day.
- Visit your local doctor or health centre if you have any concerns about your child’s health or growth.

Things to remember

- Fruit juice, soft drinks, cordial and other sweet drinks are unnecessary.
- Encourage your child to drink water and eat fruit.
- If you wish to include sweet drinks in your child’s diet, limit consumption to one small glass per day.
- Changing your child’s diet can be a challenge, but remember: young children can only eat or drink what is given to them.

eja..

Hassan mengeja...

B.U.S. ..... bus

H....SS..N........Hassan

budak baru belajar mengeja....

kalau tak dia suruh Umi atau Bapak ejakan...

"Umi..eja MAP.." Hassan mintak Umi ejakan..

"M.A.P"...Umi eja

"MAP..." Hassan sebut sambil mengigatkan apa yg Umi ejakan tadi..

library..

library...

hampa ngan cara urusan library....

begitu la 3 tempat yg berbeza...

tak check pun...

aku tabik kat "org putih" ni..bab kejujuran dan kepercayaan...
mengapa aku kata begitu...
masa aku gi Brisbane last month....aku perhatikan....tiada sapa2 pun check tiket tak de pun kotak utk letak tiket...macam kat Msia...kita naik lrt ke komuter ke...ade tong utk masukkan balik tiket tu .... di sini tak de...dan tak de langsung org check tiket...betapa rasa kagum ngan masyarakat mereka ni....mereka dah dididik ngan sikap jujur dan bertanggungjawab....
kalau kat tempat kita..mau nye ramai nya menipu dan mengelat dari bayar tambang ... sini aku perhatikan bagus je...semua beratur beli tiket ..dan terus menunggu train yg menuju ke tempat masing2...
begitu juga waktu kami naik citycat ferry ..ni macam bot...bayar kat dlm tu kalau lum ade tiket.. kalau ade leh terus masuk n duduk...so memang tak de org check tiket pun...wow...memang betul la mereka ni benar2 tau tanggungjawab masing2...
beratur ....elok je....

satu lagi kalau naik bas tu... baik yg muda mahupun yg tua...atau yg disable..pun nak membantu sapa2 aje nak naik bas..seperti aku selalu bawak stroller sambil dukung hassan dan sambil sebelah lagi tangan pengang pelastik beg (beli barang kat kedai)...masing nak tolong bawak masuk dlm bas tu...bagus betul.....dan driver nye pun begitu..membantu...serta memandu dengan cermat....

95% SUSUIBU + 5% Makanan Tambahan..

Mengapa aku katakan 95% SUSUIBU
...kerana dia memang menyusu byk....begitu la sebenarnye budak ni..mereka perlukan susu....bile2 masa aje dia perlukan....pagi, tengah hari, petang, malam, tengah malam, anytime.... mereka perlu utk tumbesaran sistem badan nye..

5% makanan tambahan..
Hassan tak makan sampai 3 kali sehari ke ..setiap hari mesti makan ke...TIDAK..
makanan tu hanya ..MAKANAN TAMBAHAN...
makanan tu hanya untuk mengenalkan..so maksud MENGENALKAN tu adalah setakat bagi sekali sekala....bukan menu yg kena makan 3 kali sehari...ooooooo tidak...

apa yg Hassan makan?

* sepanjang usia 1 hari hingga 6 bulan
SUSUIBU sahaja

* usia 6 bulan
SUSUIBU
diperkenalkan : bubur nasi kosong diblend (sekali aje dlm masa 2 hari),,itu pun hanya 3 ke 4 kali aje...dan makan hanya 2 -3 suap kecil..
diperkenalkan : sayur (carrot) - puree - 2 kali aje sepanjang dlm usia dia 6 bulan tu..
diperkenalkan : kentang - puree - 2 kali aje juga..

hanya diperkenalkan

* usia 7 bulan, 8 bulan, 9 bulan...
SUSUIBU sahaja
dia tak mahu apa2 makanan tambahan..

* usia 10 bulan
SUSUIBU
diperkenalkan : roti putih gardenia (dipotong panjang2& kecil2) - supaya dia boleh pegang...sebagai finger food (dia makan hanya main2 aje....)

* usia 11 bulan
SUSUIBU
Roti putih (kosong) - ni ikut suke dia nak makan bile..makan sambil main ke apa2 la..

* usia 12 bulan/ 1 tahun
SUSUIBU
Roti putih (kosong)
Bubur Nasi kosong / Bubur Nasi Sayur (carrot+kentang) / Bubur Nasi Sayur + Ayam
(bubur ni hanya makan sekali aje sehari ..itu pun bukan setiap hari....sama ade 2 hari sekali ataupun 3 hari selang baru makan...) - semua tu di blend - makan pun tak sampai le semangkuk pun..hanya beberapa suap aje...
diperkenalkan : buah anggur/epal/pear (sekali sekala je makan)
diperkenalkan : sayur direbus (carrot)- sekali sekala

* usia 13 bulan hingga 19 bulan
SUSUIBU
Roti Putih (kosong) / Roti Putih (kosong) dibakar
Bubur Nasi kosong / Bubur Nasi Sayur (carrot+kentang+brocoli+cauliflower)
(bubur ni hanya makan sekali sehari aje..seperti juga bulan sebelum nye...bukan setiap hari..)
-diblend/dilecek - beberapa suap aje dia makan..
Pasta rebus (spegethi/macaroni)
(Pasta ni hanya sekali sekala..bukan menu harian ...)
Pear/Epal
diperkenalkan : strawberri / pisang (starwberi sekali je try....)
Sayur Rebus (Carrot/Brocoli/Cauliflower/Kentang) - dia lebih suka carrot rebus ..- sekai sekala

* usia 20 bulan ~ 22 bulan
SUSUIBU
Roti Putih (kosong) / Roti Putih (Kosong) dibakar
Bubur Nasi Kosong/ Nasi Kosong / Bubur Nasi Sayur / Nasi Kosong + Sup Sayur& ayam(rebus aje..tak tumis..)
nasi/ bubur tu ..kadang2 di blend...kadang2 dilecek je....ade la makan semangkuk ..tapi SEKALI sehari je....dan bukan tiap2 hari atau 3 kali dlm sehari...
Pasta Rebus
(Nasi/Bubur Nasi/Pasta..- tunggu atas permintaan dia..kalau dia nak makan baru bagi...dan tu pun bukan 3 kali sehari..hanya sekali dlm sehari je..)
Pear/ Epal/ Anggur
Sayur Stim (Carrot/Cauliflower/Brocoli/Kentang) - sekali sekala / ikut permintaan...

walau pun kelihatan seperti byk hassan makan..tapi dia bukan makan setiap hari atau pun setiap waktu makan (pagi/t/hari/malam)... dia hanya makan sekali sehari dan dalam masa 2 hari .....kadang2 aje....
tapi dia memang kerap menyusu....boleh dikatakan dlm sehari tu masa nye menyusu lebih banyak dari makan..begitu la yg aku katakan 95% menyusu & 5 % makan...

lain org lain cara nye..tapi aku ade cara aku tersendiri...dan aku berjaya buktikan...walaupun anak aku makan sekali sekala..dia tau lak mengunyah...dia tau menelan...walaupun aku selalu blend aje bubur dia... tak de hal nye..

Hassan dah 23 bulan..

Hari ni Hassan dah genap 23 bulan (tahun masihi lee)..
dan bermakna aku dah berjaya menyusukan nye selama 23 bulan tanpa campur susu formula...
dan boleh dikatakan Hassan menyusu SUSUIBU 95% + Makanan Tambahan hanya 5% aje...
sihat pun anak aku...dah 12kg ..

aku rasa aku berjaya ...kerana..sapa kata SUSUIBU tak bagus??? SUSUIBU paling bagus untuk tumbesaran anak ...kesan nye ..ade sesetengah budak mungkin tak nampak lagi kesan nye sekarang...dan ade yg dah kelihatan kesannye...
contohnye.. anak aku Hassan.. sihat, aktif..cergas...alhamdullilah...syukur..
aku dah dekat seminggu lebih..demam + batuk.. dan hubby pun dah kena 2 hari lepas....kami beransur sihat...Hassan...Alhamdullillah dia sihat...antibodi nye kuat..
