Pastry brushes can be made of nylon bristles, sterilized natural bristles or goose feathers. Natural-bristle brushes are considered best because they're softer and hold more liquid.

While such brushes were popular because the bristles were soft, this was not the best material for oral hygiene as the hairs were slow to dry and usually retained bacteria. Boar hair is also used in the manufacture of the boar bristle hairbrush.

If you can find one, a better choice of basting brush is an entirely synthetic brush made from a material like silicone. Pure synthetics can be washed in the dishwasher, which makes them much more sanitary. Many of them are also molded in solid units, which makes them easier to clean and prevents the loss of bristles. Silicone is one of the best materials, since it is highly heat resistant.

BRISTLE (Berus daripada bulu babi)Bulu babi atau babi hutan dipanggil "Bristle" kerana bentuk mereka yang keras dan kasar. Isteri saya membeli berus untuk menyapu kuih. Namanya dipanggil 'Pastry Brush', di beli di G'value Tampine Mart sekitar 14 Disember 2002. Ketika hendak menggunakannya dia agak curiga bila melihat dari dekat lagi berus itu. Kerana merasa agak was-was dia telah menalipon syarikat yang mengedarkan berus tersebut, untuk penjelasan. Setelah beberapa hari kemudian pegawai dari syarikat tersebut yang bernama Cik Cindy telah menalipon kembali untuk menerangkan kandungan berus tersebut. Alangkah terkejutnya kami bila diberitahu bahawa berus tersebut diperbuat dari 'Bulu Babi Hutan' ( wild boar ). Dia juga meminta ma'af kerana di kotak berus tersebut tidak menjelaskan dengan lebih lanjut lagi kandungan atau buatan berus itu. Syarikat itu juga sanggup untuk menganti rugi isteri saya. Tetapi kerana ia hanya setakat beberapa dollar sahaja dia tidak menerimanya. Namun bila ditanya isteri saya jika kami boleh menyebarkannya, beliau meminta supaya ia jangan dilakukan.

memang la natural bristles tu lebih lembut dan bagus......tapi kita ade pilihan...guna silicon bristles(synthetic).....
