Corelle

http://www.corelle.com.au/

CORELLE® dinnerware is the original break and chip resistant glass dinnerware. Introduced in 1970, CORELLE is recognised worldwide for its legendary strength and durability. The first of its kind when developed, CORELLE glass dinnerware’s underlying technology was an achievement of Corning Glass Works R&D scientists.

Corelle glass dinnerware is made through a hub lamination process that thermally bonds three layers of glass: core glass in the middle, with top and bottom layers of very clear skin or glaze glass. The process creates a lightweight, durable, multi-layered product. In addition, the unique enamels used during the decorating process actually become part of the glass, so the patterns last as long as the plate.

Through extensive consumer research, it was established that consumers wanted dinnerware that was:
- Easy to clean, dishwasher and oven safe
- Lightweight, yet durable
- Break, chip, craze spot and fade
-resistant under normal use
- Affordable, yet attractive.

ni some info...

Luminarc

http://www.luminarc.us/info/siteFaqs.php

What is glass made of?Most glass is primarily composed of sand, with small amounts of different additives used for different purposes. Luminarc glass tableware is primarily composed of sand, soda ash, and limestone. These components are heated to very high temperatures and melted in order to form glass.

http://www.luminarc.org/The-brand/Dinnerware-manufacturer(1).aspx

Making glass requires the addition of cullet (broken glass) to the three main raw materials that are sand, soda and lime.Mixed in exact proportions, the mixture is then transferred to the furnace until the materials are fused and refined in order to obtain the fluid and homogeneous paste expert glassmakers will be able to work with.
